The Ostbelgien Classic wants to host the final of the FIA Trophy for Historic Regularity Rallies in 2022!
If you don’t move forward, you move backwards… While the team of ‘The Event’ around Michael Bartholemy is working hard on organising the 2nd edition of the Ostbelgien Classic, scheduled for Friday 3rd, Saturday 4thand Sunday 5th December, the masterminds of this regularity event for historic cars, which showcases East Belgium, are moving forward by officially announcing their intention to host the final of the prestigious FIA Trophy for Historic Regularity Rallies in 2022! Competition is expected to be serious, but Eupen has a lot of trump cards up its sleeve…
“It isn’t presumptuous at all to announce as of now that we would like to make East Belgium the focal point of regularity events for classic cars by the end of 2022“, comments Michael Bartholemy. “The Ostbelgien Classic is still a young event, one of the latest additions to the calendar, but it can count on a team that has nothing left to prove when it comes to organising and managing events of this type. I’m thinking here of Joseph Lambert and Eric Chapa, who are clearly references in this field, but also of the Tripy and JB Time Concept companies, whose reputation has long since spread beyond the borders…“.
This expertise is, of course, doubled by an exceptional route that will visit no less than… 4 countries, all in the heart of a region that lends itself perfectly to the practice of regularity on open roads. In total, more than 800 kilometres are on offer to the contestants, with a stopover at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit as a highlight, where a regularity test will be organised. What else?
Scheduled in December, the Ostbelgien Classic is characterised by weather conditions that are likely to spice up the proceedings. Finally, in terms of atmosphere, the event marks the official opening of the year-end festivities in Eupen, which means that the expression ‘rally party’ is even more true here than elsewhere. And the competitors who have already participated in the inaugural edition in 2019 will certainly not dare to claim the contrary…
The layout of the Ostbelgien Classic focuses of course on sport, but also on the quality of the welcome, which is reflected in the focus on the rich heritage and gastronomy of Eupen and its region.
“For all these good reasons, we strongly believe in our chances to host this FIA final in 2022,” says Michael Bartholemy. “This year, the Ostbelgien Classic will hold the title of Qualifying Event for the FIA Trophy for Historic Regularity Rallies. It’s up to us to make a good impression, to remind people that regularity for historic cars is a discipline that originated in Belgium, not far from Eupen.”
